Oh Baby!

So the pattern we had originally picked out is still "coming soon" on the website. Who knows when it will actually be available. So Shane and I used another pattern to get the creative juices flowing. I picked the pattern and Shane did a lot of redesigning and calculating. Who would have thought that the pythagorean theorem would come in handy for a project like this? Let's just say that anywhere you see a triangle...Shane had to figure those lengths out. Once we chose the pattern, we went to Shane's parents house in Lehi so his mom could help us out! We only worked on it for about 3 hours and had already finished cutting and sewing each of the individual squares. We were surprised at how fast and easy it really was with the help of Shane's mom! Thanks Julie!

This past Saturday, we went back to Lehi and finished sewing all the squares together to finish the front of the quilt. We still need to add the batting, tie it, and then put the binding on. But here are some pictures of the progress so far...

First, we cut and sewed the individual squares

And yes, there was some seam ripping involved...we might have accidentally sewed the bottom to the side of the quilt.

Then we laid out all the pieces
Then we sewed them all together to finish the front side of the quilt!
Oh and for all of you dying to see the baby belly, I guess I will post a couple pictures! These were taken just yesterday at 29 weeks! I can't believe that we are only 2 & 1/2 months away!

BABY BLUE

Some pictures of the fabric I bought for the quilt and some first outfits to get the little guy started! P.s. I LOVE the train fabric, Shane picked it out. What can I say, he has great taste!

For the blocks

For the backing (the bumpy fabric is SOOO soft)
The accent colorsThanks Ryan and MaryAnn for the cute outfit! The outfit Shane and I picked out the day we found out it was a boy! (It kindof blends in with our couch, it actually has brown long sleeves underneath the short sleeves)

And finally some warm little hats and pajamas for those first cold winter months!

IT'S A.....

BOY!!! That's right, we had the ultrasound on October 8th! We are both so excited! After the appointment we went to Wal-mart and bought a cute little winter outfit, some hats, and pajamas. Shane is so excited to have a little boy to carry on his name! I also decided I am going to learn how to quilt and make a baby quilt for the little guy. Shane came with me and his mom (she's the pro) and Jamie and Dave (Shane's sister and husband who are having a baby girl in January). It was fun to pick out the fabric with Shane. I am way excited to see how it turns out!

I am still working at the physical therapy clinic in Lindon and doing the same old thing. Shane is working hard in school and waiting to get some interviews with medical schools. This past weekend we headed to Denver, CO for a marathon expo to advertise for the Utah Valley Marathon. It was fun to see Ryan and MaryAnn and their cute little surprise baby! She was so tiny. 4 lbs 13 oz! We brought the camera but didn't take pictures...what a novel idea. Sorry! Other than that, life is good! The time is flying by, even though I'm pregnant. I am definitely getting bigger and still feeling great! Some day I will post some belly shots...

For My Friend in the Workplace

Quotes from The Office to read in the office!

Michael Scott:
[to Pam, upset in car] I thrive on negativity. In the seventh grade, my math teacher told me I was flunking. You know what? The next day I scored six goals for my hockey team. So there you go.

Jim Halpert: Does that include 'that's what she said'?
Michael Scott: Mmhh, yes.
Jim Halpert: Wow that is really hard. You really think you can go all day long? Well, you always left me satisfied and smiling.
Michael Scott: Mmmm... THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!

Michael Scott:
Guess what? I have flaws. What are they? Oh I donno, I sing in the shower? Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering. Occasionally I'll hit somebody with my car. So sue me-- no, don't sue me. That is opposite the point I'm trying to make.

Andy:
Andy Bernard does not lose contests. He wins them. Or he quits them. Because they're unfair.

Angela:
[yelling at Kevin] Listen, Dummy! It's not that hard! All you have to do is take the numbers from the sales report and type them into a master spreadsheet. A monkey could do it. I do not understand why you can't do it.
Holly: No! You DO NOT talk to him like that.
Angela: But he's an idiot.
Kevin: Hey.
Holly: He is not an idiot--
Kevin: Thank you, Holly.
Holly:--he is mentally challenged. But he's doing a super job here.
Kevin: Wait back up. Do you think that I'm retarded?

Jim Halpert: See, you're always saying there's something wrong with society, maybe there's something wrong with you?
Michael Scott: If it's me, then society made me that way.

Jim Halpert:
When Michael told us that Jan was pregnant, he led us to believe that he was the father... by telling us that he was the father.

Michael Scott: I think you'll have fun because, men from Scranton are handsome and know how to show a woman a good time.
Dwight Schrute: Not that guy who murdered his mother. He was not so handsome. Also, Kevin.

Michael Scott: Myth: Three Americans every year die from rabies. Fact: Four Americans every year die from rabies.

Michael Scott: Kelly, you're Hindu so you believe in Buddha.
Kelly: That's Buddhists.
Michael Scott: Are you sure?
Kelly: No.

Dwight Schrute:
As a farmer, I know that when an animal is sick, sometimes the right thing to do, is to put it out of its misery. With the electricity we're keeping Meredith alive, we could power a small fan for two days. You tell me what's unethical.

Michael Scott:
Jim, you're six eleven and you weigh ninety pounds, Gumby has a better body than you. Boom roasted. Pam, you failed art school, boom roasted. Kevin, I can't decide between a fat joke or a dumb joke boom roasted. Creed your teeth called your breath stinks. Boom roasted. Angela, where's Angela. Whoa there you are I didn't see you behind that grain of rice! Boom. Roasted! Oscar, you're gay! Andy, Cornell called, they think you suck! And you're gayer than Oscar. Boom roasted!
[Stanley laughs hysterically]

Michael Scott:
Alright. Alright everybody. You know I kid. You know I kid. You guys are the reason that I went into the paper business. So, uh, good-night, God bless, God bless America, and get home safe.

Michael Scott:
[screaming at Stanley after he collapses] No no no no you will not die! Stanley! Stanley you will not die! Stanley! Stanley! Barack is president! You are black Stanley!

Red Cross woman: So, assessing the situation. Are they breathing?
Michael Scott: No, Rose, they are not breathing. And, they have no arms or legs.
Red Cross woman: No that's not part of it.
Michael Scott: Where are they? You know what? If we come across somebody with no arms or legs do we bother resuscitating them? I mean what kind of quality of life do we have there?
Kevin: I would wanna live with no legs.
Michael Scott: How 'bout no arms? No arms or legs is basically how you exist right now, Kevin, you don't do anything.

Rose: Ok. You didn't maintain a hundred beats per minute. And the ambulance didn't arrive because no body called 911. So you lost 'em.
Dwight Schrute: Ok. He's dead. Anyone know what we do next? Anybody? Rose?
Rose: I have no idea.
Phyllis: We bury him.
Dwight Schrute: Wrong. Check for an organ donor card. If he has one we only have minutes to harvest.
Creed: He has no wallet, I checked.
Michael Scott: He is an organ donor.
Dwight Schrute: [excitedly] He is? Give me some ice in a Styrofoam bucket. [removes a hunting knife from his ankle and cuts open the dummy] We search for the organs! [digging around inside] Where's the heart? The precious heart.

Red Cross woman: Everyone, we need to pump at a pace of one hundred beats per minute.
Michael Scott: Ohhhkay that's, uh, hard to keep track. How many is that per hour?
Jim Halpert: How's that going to help you?
Michael Scott: I'll divide and then count to it.
Jim Halpert: Right.

Hope you appreciated this...

Where has the time gone?

I just realized that my last post was about 1/3 of a year ago so I decided I had better give a little update so you know that we are still alive and kickin. I guess I am just much more interested in reading about other people's lives rather than telling about my own. Is that bad?

Anyway, the summer went way too fast! It consisted of MCAT applications, a whole lot of working, a trip to Lake Tahoe with my family, and a spur of the moment vacation to St. George before school started back up. Oh, and I guess there was one more thing...

We're pregnant! Well technically I'm pregnant but that's what the people say right?

I absolutely LOVE this picture of Shane. Doesn't he look excited?

We decided we better take some "before she gets huge" pictures.

And of course the side view, I am gonna miss these days :(

This news pretty much consumed our summer. We are very excited to have a baby, despite Shane's facial expressions! I am now 16 weeks along and have been feeling great. Other than losing my appetite and being very tired in the first trimester it has been smooth sailing. I have been really lucky! We get to find out if it's a boy or girl at my next Dr.'s appointment on October 8th. We can't wait!

In other news, school started for Shane last week. It is his last year at BYU, crazy! I have been helping him with secondary applications and he has been writing loads of essays. If any of you know Shane you know that he would rather be stabbed in the eye with a fork than write 10 essays for these secondaries. So to help him out I have done the other parts of his secondaries for him so all he has to focus on are the essays. As for me, I am still working at a physical therapy clinic in Lindon. It's okay but I am starting to miss going to BYU. When Shane went up to campus on the first day of school I wished I was going with him. Oh well, life goes on right?

Our trip to St. George was fantastic! Last minute we decided just the two of us should go on one last vacation before school starts and before we have a baby. That meant the coming weekend! Shane booked us a hotel in St. George and we planned to hike Angel's Landing at Zion National Park. We had so much fun! Staying in the hotel was fun too. It was a lot nicer than we thought it would be. We went swimming, watched a movie, went out to dinner at Olive Garden, hiked Angel's Landing and Weeping Rock, went to the gas station for some late night slushies and nachos, it was a BLAST! It was great to spend some time away with Shane before things got crazy again. I'm really glad we did it! Here are some pictures!

On the way up.

Us at the top. 5 mile hike, 2,000 ft ascent, 3 hours long, 14 months pregnant. We were pretty proud! It was so cool to be at the top. The last .5 mile you are on about a 5 ft wide trail with 1200 ft drop offs on both sides of you. Basically you are rock climbing with a chain to make sure you don't fall. It was pretty freakin awesome!

View from the top!

Weeping rock. We did this after Angel's Landing. At the end of the trail are these rocks on the side of the mountain that drip water. It was pretty cool! It felt nice too!

At Weeping Rock

Outside our hotel

Super 8 where we stayed!

One last picture from the top!

This really cool rock you could climb inside! I love my husband...he's like a little kid!

One with me inside. See how normal I am compared to him? We decided to take these two pictures on the way down. On the way up, we passed this rock and there was a girl inside it with people standing around watching her. It freaked both of us out because we were like "why is there a hand and face coming out of that rock?" Then we realized it was just a cool place to take a picture, so we did on the way down.

The trip to Tahoe was AWESOME too! We stayed in these really nice condos right on the lake. We also celebrated my birthday while we were there. Here are some pictures!

At an underwater show!

Us on the water trike we rented! Those things are more work then they are play!

The view of Lake Tahoe from our condo!

Dinner at the Casino...Don't worry we didn't gamble! My dad wanted to...

Us at the condo!

All in all it was a great summer! The weather is getting cooler now and I can't believe it's almost fall. Hopefully Shane will be getting some interviews to medical schools in the coming months and I will be getting bigger. To date I have only gained about 3 pounds compared to my pre-pregnancy weight. The doctor said not to worry because it will catch up with me! I can't believe how fast the time goes. I feel like in no time we will be living somewhere else, not knowing anyone. Shane will be in medical school and I will be taking care of our baby. I am trying to live in the moment because time really does fly. Until next time...hopefully sooner than later.

D-DAY!

Ok not quite. But close. Shane is on his way to take the MCAT as we speak (or should I say write). He has worked so hard and now it all has to be put to the test. He pulled out all of his notecards and piles of books he has been studying since January and said "Now I have to pull all of this information out!" I just laughed. He will do great I am sure. He is so intelligent. He wasn't too nervous until last night. This morning it hit me too, I'm so nervous and I'm not even taking the stupid thing! But everything will work out. I planned a fun afternoon for Shane only he doesn't know it yet. He is coming to visit me at work today after his test since it's practically next door to where I work. He doesn't know it yet but I'm taking the afternoon off and we are going to go up to Salt Lake and play. Pictures to come! We just can't wait for this morning to be over.

1 Year Anniversary!

Shane and I celebrated our one year anniversary on Saturday May 1st! It was a blast! Since we are trying to save as much money as possible right now, we decided we weren't really going to get anything for each other. Shane lied. It was actually about a week before our anniversary, and my parents were planning to come into town. I was at work the day they arrived and Shane stayed home busy cleaning the apartment for when my parents came over. I came home to an amazingly clean apartment and this hung on our wall:

I was always telling Shane that our apartment needed some decoration or something and I had been wanting to hang some of our wedding pictures for awhile. I just had never gotten around to it because our walls are cinderblock so I wasn't sure how to go about doing it. He went and bought three beautiful frames and hung some of our pictures above the couch. The best part was that he did it so that my parents could see them. He is so sweet! He also hung my mirror with a sticky note on it:

When our actually anniversary rolled around, Shane surprised me with tickets to a movie I had been wanting to see. It was even a chick flick! First I made Shane breakfast. We had bacon and eggs, and blueberry muffins! Then we went to the matinee showing and then came home and had a Smallville marathon, a show we both enjoy and found for 10$ a season. Then we went to dinner at Outback Steakhouse. It was delicious! We came back and decided that we should bust out the top of our cake. We had always heard about how gross the cakes are a year later after being in the freezer but we were pleasantly surprise! It was actually REALLY good! We were both too full to eat a lot of it but we still have it in our kitchen.
This is how Shane feels about our marriage!I felt kind of bad because I didn't really get him anything at all. But I still have something up my sleeve. A late gift. But it's a surprise so shhhh! You will hear about that in a future post I'm sure. Anyway, It was a great first anniversary! It was fun to talk about what we were doing one year ago on that day! I am so glad that I met Shane. He is the best and I love him!

Graduation

Shane and I Me with my parents!

Me, looking at the wrong camera!

Me with Laura (My best friend in the program)

I graduated from BYU on April 23rd and it was such a great feeling! My parents came into town for it and I am so glad they did! The night before graduation, they took Shane and I out to eat at Wingers. I love me some wings! The next morning I had to be at the Smith Field House at 7:00 am, of course they would make the education majors wake up that early...
Anyway, the ceremony was good and not as long as everyone was dreading. We took pictures and then went out to eat with family at Golden Corral. It was delicious! Shane's family was there and so were my parents. It was a blast!
Then Shane and I went back to my cousin's house and watched a movie and just spent time together. My parents left the next morning. It was a great weekend! I don't think I have had that relaxed of a weekend since I was 5! It's weird how your body gets so used to starting school again once the fall comes. This fall I will be expecting to go back to school but I won't. I will kind of miss it. Maybe. No but really, BYU has been a great experience. I learned so much throughout my college education and made so many friends. Here's a shout out to all the roommates I had (for listening to my jokes and lame stories), my cohort (for helping me get through the elementary education 3 hour classes with some humor), my family (for supporting me in everything I achieved), and Shane (for being the best husband in the world!) Going to BYU was great! It will be weird not going back in the fall!

Done and Done

Now you've been updated.

MCAT versus Student Teaching

Shane has been studying like crazy for the MCAT. He is taking it on May 21st and boy is he working hard! Right this very minute he is up on campus taking a full on practice MCAT. It started at 9AM and goes until 2:30PM. He studies for the MCAT more than his classes. Which is probably the smart thing to do since his prep course cost us more than tuition! He has a stack of notecards that he carries with him everywhere! What a nerd! But really I hope this practice test goes well for him so that he can feel confident in the rest of his preparation.

While Shane does that I am planning lessons (with a little bit of blogging in between). I finished student teaching at Grovecrest Elementary at the end of February. It was really hard to leave those kids. They were such a great class! I miss them so much already! But there was an upside to this halfway point - I turned in my teacher work sample on February 25th and I am done with BYU assignments FOREVER! It felt good to get that 40 page report out of my hands! I started at Forbes Elementary in a 3rd grade class. It has been two weeks already and I am still getting used to the switch. I have much longer hours at this school than the last.

But the semester is coming to a close very quickly! It is creeping up on both Shane and I so fast! We are excited for the semester to finish! Now I'm just trying to find a teaching position for next school year, which is nearly impossible. Oh well, it will all work out. It always does. Here are some pictures of my last class I student taught. They are so goofy. I love them!
